Q. What is unique about your university in terms of academic culture and overall student experience?
A. Sydney Business School ensures that each student gains not only knowledge but also competencies to survive in a globally competitive environment. The business school’s flexible and innovative educational environment together with connections to the international business community provides students with an opportunity to build professional and personal networks.
Also, we offer students personalised experiences helping them to obtain the career they aim for while supporting their individual needs, professional and personal commitments.
Q. What are some of the popular programmes among students? What about Indian students?
A. International business is one of our most popular programmes among international students including Indians. While programmes like Master of Business Double Specialization, Advanced Professional Accounting and Business Administration are most sought after by international students, Indians also prefer MS programmes. The Double Specialization in MS is another programme that international students prefer.
Q. What are the admission criteria for international graduate students?
A. Our admission criteria for both Masters full time and certificate programmes are as follows:
Master Programs academic requirements
A recognised Bachelor’s degree (the specific discipline may vary depending on the master course) with an average mark of 50%,
Applicants with other relevant tertiary qualifications and/ or substantial relevant professional of managerial experience will also be considered for entry.
Three years' full-time relevant professional or managerial experience, or part-time equivalent, and a one-page Statement of Motivation is required for Master of Business Administration and Master of Business Administration Advanced
Graduate Certificate Programs academic requirements
A Bachelor degree deemed equivalent to an Australian Bachelor degree, or
a tertiary academic qualification of at least 3 years’ duration fulltime, or
3 years' fulltime equivalent managerial/professional work experience, or
7 years' fulltime equivalent general work experience.
Q. Do you consider the social media presence of a student while considering him/her for admission?
A. No, we do not consider the social media presence of a candidate.
Q. How important is work experience in your selection process?
A. Three years' full-time relevant professional or managerial experience, or part-time equivalent, and a one-page Statement of Motivation* is required for Master of Business Administration and Master of Business Administration Advanced.
Q. When do the applications open?
A. Application can be submitted through the year. For International Applicants application closes one week prior to course commencement date.
Q. Does your school offer financial aid to international students? Please elaborate.
A. Sydney Business School offers for international students who start their studies in 2016 a bursary. The bursary is awarded in the form of a full tuition fee waiver of the final 2 subjects in the 12-subject Master degree, or the final 3 subjects in the 16-subject Master degree. This is equivalent to a 16–18% reduction of the tuition fee on the full duration of the course. This scholarship is granted automatically together with an Offer of Admission.
Partially Tuition Scholarship, this scholarship offers a 25% reduction of the tuition fee for the standard duration of the course. Students need to submit an application to be considered for this scholarship.
Students who have an offer for a Business Program and hold a Bachelor degree in a Business or Commerce related area, may be granted advanced standing of 24 cp (4 subjects).
Q. Many foreign students are worried about leaving the country because they do not know whether they will be able to find work to pay off theirstudent debts. Do you guide your students in finding internships and jobs?
A. International students may have the opportunity to undertake an internship as part of GWP900, Global Workplace Practices. Though placement is competitive and limited by availability, in 2014 all applicants gained a place with an external business.
Some postgraduate programs provide an option for students to undertake an industry project. This project introduces them to an organisation and together with nominated managers and academic support, provides the opportunity to investigate a real business problem as part of program of study.
Also, throughout the study and for two years after graduation, students will have access to a qualified Careers Consultant who specialises in Business. The consultant can help them improve their employability and provide up-to-date information on the Australian job market, additional career programs and job-search resources.
Q. Besides education tours, how do you engage with prospective international students?
A. Our International Team meets with prospective students during its International Missions. Conversion Calls with students who have an offer and who expressed their interest in one of our courses.
